(no subject)

I've been trying to cook more "from the begining" over the last few months. Chocolate has so far been the biggest problem - I'm darn well not going to give it up, but haven't found a suitable substitute for my Cadbury blocks. Nutella isn't going anywhere either. And I figure my next jar of peanut butter will be of the Sanitarium variety. I've been buying less 'low fat' versions recently too.
I'm still getting some more prepared ingredients - like mayonnaise. I could make it, but so long as there aren't numbers in the ingredient list, I can't see the point.
Today I copped out using the blender on mint and parsley, and bought tubes of the stuff instead. I know they'll last longer, and be less expensive, but I'm still not sure how I feel about it. And not being able to find real limes meant I needed bottled lime juice - unimpressed.

I'm actually starting to enjoy the process of cooking. Around two weeks ago I got to make cupcakes - midnight was great fun that evening! The icing sugar decoration thing didn't turn out quite as I'd planned, and I forgot the milk.

I also seemed to think it a good idea yesterday morning to make four times the waffle receipe I usually do. Not quite sure why I thought it was a good idea, not what I could do with it all. I'm trying to figure out how cooking them, freezing, and then toasting them when ready would go. Fresh ones work just fine toasted.

I remember enjoying being domestic around this time two years ago, and it went on for around eight months. I'm living somewhere else now, so I wonder how it will turn out this time.

A little disappointed summer is here so early. I was hoping to make stuffed tomatoes, and garlic soup, and more casseroles, and... well, hot foods. Salads tend to be a bit unsatisfactory. Hoping the tropical fruit (substituting banana for peach) and prawn (and scallop) salad works out okay.

The waffles will be fine frxozen. If you want them to not stick together , freeze them separately then put them into a bread bag once frozen.

I applaud your desire to cook from scratch. May I ask what prompted it ?

... just stuck em in the freezer in a box. I'll make sure I've got people over because there are a few. Oh well - next time!

I don't recall. It was somewhat gradual. Possibly the hope that I'll have more energy if I think more about what I'm eating.

No way am I going to be making bread from scratch at the moment, I don't have the kitchen space. Just that I'm more conscious about it, I think.

Or you could stack'em all up but put baking paper between each one.

Catherine - my housemate does bread from scratch and it's quite tasty. I do prefer store-bought bread though.

WAFFLES!!! Will you make me waffles? Rarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Also what's wrong with numbers? Organic's not necessarily healthiest by default.

More that I'm trying to avoid over processed things, and preservatives. For example, Natural Co. stuff isn't organic, but I've not seen numbers on their ingredient lists.

And sure, I'll make you waffles.
